Japanese motifs

In this section you will find designs that have been associated with Japanese culture from ancient times until the present day. Some of these designs can be found in many forms of Japanese art in addition to textile designs, typically the crane and the koi carp.

Series Kan30 represent Mon motifs. A Mon is a family symbol, akin to a family coat of arms. To this day formal kimonos will bear the Mon pertaining to the family of the wearer.

We have also sourced a number of designs that while not exactly Japanese they can certainly be classed as 'kawaii' (cute). Take a look at the matyroshka (Russian doll) designs by Kokka.
